WORK WITH ME

One to one Therapy

One to one therapy provides an opportunity to talk and work through your difficulties in a supportive and confidential space. I am currently offering therapy remotely via Teams and will also soon be able to see clients face to face in Clifton, Bristol.

A course of CBT can range from 6 to 20 sessions depending on the nature of a person’s difficulties. On average, I tend to see clients for 10 to 12 sessions, but people respond to therapy at different rates. Sessions are 50 minutes long. The first session is an assessment during which a person’s difficulties and their goals for therapy are discussed in detail. If at this point CBT does not seem suitable, another form of therapy may be recommended. Please feel free to contact me by phone or email if you have any questions about this.

So what is a session actually like?

A unique feature of CBT is that unlike many other therapies it is a relatively structured approach. A session usually begins with an agenda so that we have a clear idea of how the session will be spent. This will include a check-in of how you have been feeling, a recap of the previous session and a review of the ‘homework’. To bring about helpful change we often use diaries, experiments and exercises in sessions, all of which are devised together and conducted at a pace that feels right for you. A CBT session would not be complete without a plan for how to use the session’s content that week – the ‘homework’. Again, this activity is planned collaboratively and is intended to help you progress towards your goals. Research shows that homework leads to better outcomes. Typically, a therapy session ends with a summary and reflection of its content. Reflecting on new insights is an essential part of therapy and incorporating new learning into your life can lead to lasting change.

Clinical Supervision

Clinical supervision is an essential requirement for all practising psychological therapists to safeguard professional standards and promote high quality care.

As an experienced BABCP accredited CBT Therapist I am able to provide clinical supervision to other CBT practitioners. In 2022, I undertook training in clinical supervision via the CBT Institute in Adelaide, Australia.

I am currently providing supervision remotely via Teams.

If you require supervision and have any questions, please feel free to contact by email or telephone.
