WORK WITH ME

One to one Therapy

One to one therapy provides an opportunity to talk and work through your difficulties in a supportive and confidential space. I am currently offering therapy remotely via Zoom and face to face in Redland, Bristol.

I help people with a wide range of difficulties. Individuals experiencing high levels of stress, difficulties managing anger, depression, insomnia. I work very often with people experiencing high levels of anxiety, such as panic attacks, phobias, overwhelming worry also known as generalized anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), health anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and difficulties related to body image. I also work with individuals experiencing low self-esteem and perfectionism. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions about this.

A course of CBT ranges from 6 to 20 sessions depending on the nature of a person’s difficulties. On average I tend to see clients for around 12 sessions, but people respond to therapy at different rates. Sessions are 50 minutes long. The first session is an assessment during which a person’s difficulties and their goals for therapy are discussed in detail. If at this point CBT does not seem suitable another form of therapy may be recommended.

Why is BABCP accreditation so important?

If you are looking for a CBT therapist it is important to verify they are accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP). You should be able to find their name on the BABCP CBT Register. Please note a distinction, the BABCP is the accrediting body for CBT Therapists; the BACP is the accrediting body for Counsellors.

In the UK, ‘CBT Therapist’ is not a protected title. This means it is common to see people advertising themselves as CBT Therapists, or as providing CBT, when they have undergone minimal training and supervised practice in this approach. This is why BABCP accreditation is so important. Please also note, BABCP accreditation is very different to BABCP membership. Anyone with an interest in CBT can become a member of the BABCP, but to become BABCP accredited mental health professionals require many years of clinical experience, rigorous postgraduate training in the theory and practice of CBT, and must satisfy stringent criteria related to CBT clinical hours, supervised practice and CPD activity (continuing professional development). All qualified CBT Therapists will either have a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) or Masters (Msc) in CBT in addition to other degrees and qualifications.

Clinical Supervision

Clinical supervision is an essential requirement for all practising psychological therapists to safeguard professional standards and promote high quality care.

As an experienced BABCP accredited CBT Therapist I am able to provide clinical supervision to other CBT practitioners. In 2022, I undertook training in clinical supervision via the CBT Institute in Adelaide, Australia.

I am currently providing supervision remotely via Zoom.

If you require supervision and have any questions, please feel free to contact by email or telephone.
